About the Role
Deltek’s Data Science and Enablement Engineering team is looking for an Intern to support analysis and semantic modeling of customer health and CRM data. You’ll work directly with data scientists, data modelers, and business stakeholders to turn raw data into insights that inform how we understand and support our customers. This role isn’t just technical: you’ll spend real time with business users, asking questions, pressure-testing assumptions, and making sure the data work answers the question being asked.
Recent and ongoing projects on the team include analyzing license expansion opportunities, identifying cross-sell potential, building churn risk models, standing up an MCP server for AI, and creating a unified semantic model to provide a source of truth to AI. You may contribute to similar initiatives.
What You’ll Do
-
Meet directly with business stakeholders to elicit requirements, ask clarifying questions, and translate loosely defined business problems into well-scoped analytical questions
-
Support the team in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing customer health and CRM datasets to answer those business questions
-
Structure data-driven approaches to solve business problems, checking back in with stakeholders as understanding evolves
-
Perform exploratory data analysis to identify patterns, anomalies, and insights in large datasets from multiple sources
-
Create features from structured and unstructured data, applying feature engineering techniques to enhance model performance
-
Build visualizations and narratives that make complex analysis accessible to non-technical audiences
-
Document methodologies, assumptions, and limitations thoroughly to ensure reproducibility and knowledge transfer
-
Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Analytics, or a related field
-
Comfort initiating conversations with business users to gather requirements and clarify ambiguous asks; this role requires more direct stakeholder interaction than a typical technical internship
-
Understanding of major data modeling paradigms (3NF, star schema, etc.) and database technology concepts
-
Proficiency in Python
-
SQL skills, with experience querying relational databases
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Preferred
-
Basic understanding of machine learning concepts (regression, classification, clustering, time series, feature engineering) and comfort discussing tradeoffs and real-world applications, even without production ML experience
-
Exposure to dbt
-
Experience with Snowflake or other cloud data warehouses
-
Prior coursework or project experience with CRM, customer analytics, or churn/health-scoring data
-
Experience presenting analysis to non-technical stakeholders, or other experience directly gathering requirements from business users (client-facing roles, consulting, product work, etc.)
